DAVID Healy had mixed emotions on Saturday evening following Rangers' disappointing defeat to Kilmarnock in the SPL.

The result, of course, was hugely frustrating for Ally McCoist and his players, especially after 50,000 bluenoses had packed into Ibrox Stadium to show their support following the club's administration news.

But prior to and after the match Healy, a lifelong bluenose, insists he was bursting with pride because of the Rangers fans that backed their team to the hilt on an emotional day.

The Northern Ireland striker has always believed Rangers has the best supporters in world football and that on Saturday they proved that.

He said: "The fans turned up at the weekend as they always do and got behind the club and the players although we didn't get the result we wanted.

"That was hugely disappointing but it was still great to see that there are so many Rangers fans ready to support the club.

"I took the kick-off with Jig and he asked me if it was Celtic we were playing such was the atmosphere in the ground.

"Penny Arcade was blasting out and the fans were bouncing and that's the way it should be at Ibrox.

"As I said we didn't get the result we wanted on Saturday but what was shown was that everyone at the club is united.

"One thing we will do is stick together because of the Rangers family and the gaffer's words 'we don't do walking away' were perfect really given the circumstances.

"The fans love that and it's all about staying strong in these testing times.

"We've all got families and livelihoods but we'll get through it I'm sure, especially with the fans we have, they are magnificent.

"I've made no secret about the fact I've grown up supporting the club so I know all about the passion they have for the club and I am no different, it's a special club."

Prior to the Killie game McCoist showed his players a video which looked back at the history of Rangers and for Healy it brought back a lot of fond memories.

He added: "When we had our team talk on Saturday the gaffer showed us a montage on TV which went back through the years.

"The European Cup Winners' Cup success was on it and a couple of the gaffer's goals were on there as well.

"We also saw Davie Cooper score against Aberdeen in the Skol Cup final years ago and for me that was something I still remember to this day.

"I was at the two Skol Cup finals against Aberdeen when the gaffer and Durranty were such big players for the club and when I was watching the goals go in the hairs of the back on my neck stood up because I remember vividly being there.

"It was a nice touch by the coaching staff to show us that and although we didn't get the result we wanted there were a lot of things happened on Saturday that will stick with me, in particular the fans.

"Rangers has a big history and is recognised as being one of the biggest clubs in the world but we also have the best fans in the world."
